Let's Find Votes

Why is it:
Whenever there is a close vote tally...
They always find a 'missing' bag or box of ballots....
And they are always enough for the Democrat to win?

Who Said This?

"This book aims to answer the needs expressed in thousands on thousands of letters to me in the solution of marriage problems... Knowledge of sex truths frankly and plainly presented cannot possibly injure healthy, normal, young minds. Concealment, suppression, futile attempts to veil the unveilable - these work injury, as they seldom succeed and only render those who indulge in them ridiculous. For myself, I have full confidence in the cleanliness, the open-mindedness, the promise of the younger generation."

Same person who said this: "We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population,"
and this: "The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it."

And; On blacks, immigrants and indigents:
"...human weeds,' 'reckless breeders,' 'spawning... human beings who never should have been born."

Thinking-Cap Time. Your $$

"The situation is shocking - and no one is more astonished than me. My firm, one of the largest and best-known investment advisory firms in the nation, has placed $4 billion of our clients' assets into retail mutual funds. On my radio and TV shows, through my books, newsletter, website and seminars, I've been the retail mutual fund industry's biggest proponent. For more than twenty years I've said that mutual funds are the best way to save for college, retirement, and every other important financial goal you can name.
No longer. Jean and I have now sold all our investments in retail mutual funds. All my colleagues at Edelman Financial have done likewise, and our clients are following our advice. You need to sell all your retail mutual funds, too."

From page 3 of; The Lies About Money, by Ric Edelman

You need to sell all your retail mutual funds, too.

Just a thought. Good advice, in the Holiday Spirit of Giving.

State Sinking in Red Ink!

Dear Mr. Editor.

The Friday banner headline; "State sinking in red ink" got me to thinking.

Here is what I thought;

If any citizen, or undocumented guest worker, sneak-in, terrorist or any other individual had the problem of being deep in debt, we would have to make changes in our lifestyle that would involve selling stuff to raise cash and not spending money we didn't have. We would have to 'cut back' and 'tighten our belt' and 'make-do' and 'live within our means' and not spend money we didn't have because the consequences would be our financial ruin and possible legal punishment.

I wonder what the State of California will do in the same situation?

NOISE

Noise

Observations on noise, by Michael Shatto

I was thinking that the reason I was having trouble understanding the fast-paced dialog of the TV show; “Pushing Daisies” might be me. I had been turning the volume to irritating levels, attempting to find the place where what they were saying would clear up. Rather than risk the marriage I figured a hearing test was in order.

It’s interesting, aging, because things that did, don’t work the way they used to. There is a pain running along the arch and out the big toe for a while, and then it is gone. Rising from a chair can cause aches and pains and popping sounds from an otherwise normal back that all disappear after a few steps. Sharp little headaches appear than instantly leave. All of these things happen for no reason at all. It’s like various body parts are just letting you know…….
And the hearing, well, isn’t what it used to be.

Talking with the doctor during the hearing test, we covered the onset of old-guy hearing loss in the high and very low range, which is normal and is enough to be a nuisance but not enough to justify the expense of hearing aids.
I explained my problem was not being able to define outside sound from the Tinnitus; I had once asked if the grocery across the street from our apartment could do something to mask the noise from the electric motor of their refrigeration unit on the roof and discovered they didn’t have electric motors on the roof. The noise was, literally in my head and was one of the thirteen separate electric sounding sounds, of varying loudness I hear constantly.
My doctor said she wore a hearing aid to mask the ‘crickets’ that were her Tinnitus that was caused by going to a concert with her daughter and being next to the stage.
We discussed what might have caused damage to my ears; everything from being exposed to gunfire as a soldier and a hunter, to driving an open Jeep and the resultant wind noise for many years, to flying, music, work environment and even drug use and allergies.
I left knowing ‘where I stand’ and what I had to look forward to; non-stop noise from within my head as my ability to hear what was outside my head decreased and the job of distinguishing what I heard from what I thought I heard becomes more difficult. Got that?

After the experience of the hearing test it occurred to me that Tinnitus is something we bring on because we quite literally invite noise into our life.

Did the explorers and settlers, crossing the continent in Conestoga Wagons have as much background noise as we do? Only the creaking of wood, jingle of tack and clomp of footsteps. They had the sound of wind in grass and trees. At night they saw such an abundance of stars that they could see quite well without aid of lights.
What sounds bothered people of the Middle Ages and earlier times? Did they have Tinnitus, I wonder?

Inhabitants of towns and cities that make up the Megalopolis of the edges of, not just America but all the continents, have no clue because they have never experienced a time in their lives that wasn’t filled with audible and optical pollution. Will they learn about calm and quiet?
Today’s youth do not even know there are more than a pitiful few stars in the sky and think the sound of silence is a song. They take noise with them everywhere at all times. They even use the most advanced technology to literally stick noise directly into their ears. Where did they learn that? Why do we do that?

Why do we leave the city to experience the great outdoors and have boats with sound systems powerful enough to overcome the V8 engine with no mufflers? Why do we take a Boom-Box to the forest and play music so loud it can be heard for miles, by everybody in the area?
Why do we install ‘upgraded sound systems’ in our cars, so powerful the ‘Boom, Boom can be heard for blocks before the loud exhaust announces your arrival?

Why do people continue to do things that not only do not reduce noise but, in fact increase noise, even to the point where we do physical damage to ourselves?
Ask, and you’ll find it is permanent and irreversible so, the sixty four million dollar question is, why give yourself Tinnitus?

From my porch, depending on the breeze, we regularly hear the sound of a distant train horn and sometime the click-clack of steel wheels. In foggy weather we hear fog horns on the bay. The occasional high altitude jet passes over as do the small planes from the local airport. There is a never ending muffled roar from a freeway and the sounds of vehicles on local streets. At night we might be serenaded by car horns as the patrons express displeasure that the local drive-in movie has not begun playing. All weekend we hear the crowd supporting their soccer teams at the park. We even hear the distant practice of the famous Concord Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps.
So I retire to write this and, in the background is the hummm of the computer fan and the clicking sound the hard-drive makes as it searches for data, politically correct ‘compact fluorescent light bulbs’ hum ever so softly, the heater cycles, the floor creaks as I walk, one of the wall clocks ticks and the chair lets me know of every movement. I live in a cocoon of sound.

We, from time to time observe what we call ‘A Day of Silence’ when we do not speak, watch TV, listen to radio or answer telephones. It is interesting to communicate with signs and the occasional note and most people go right along with us and are quite helpful. The next day we feel relaxed, like we had a one day vacation. A practice to do more often, I think.

So, let me ask you directly and personally; when was the last time you heard…..nothing?
